The enormous farmhouse on Excelsior Wine Estate with the characteristic elegance of the Victorian era, embellished with impressive chimneys and Cape Dutch gables, reflects the essence of the haute couture and affluence of the Ostrich Feather boom of the early1900s.

Nine spacious en-suite bedrooms are named after horses that were bred at Excelsior and offer luxury accommodation. The large garden offers many old trees and a refuge of hedged in tranquillity with fragrant old roses and a rose labyrinth to restore one’s soul.

The southern face of the house opens onto a wooden deck, surrounding a deep blue swimming pool. This elevated, but secluded deck offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the vineyards, the Langeberg, splendid sunsets and generally the ‘kingdom’ of this fertile valley.

Excelsior Wine Estate has been in the De Wet family for five generations since 1870. The primary focus of the estate is the production of a range of high-quality red and white wines. Of these Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are the most important varieties.

At Excelsior, grapes are harvested by hand only. Part of the reason for this is the social responsibility we have towards our longstanding labour force. With a high national unemployment rate, it seems unfair to import expensive machinery to do the work that our versatile manual labour has performed for generations.

We also believe that hand picking ensures far better control on quality and also less wastage.

After a long day dinners will be served on request in either the dining room or out on the deck.

Please note with the exception of guide dogs, animals are not permitted on the premises.

A deposit of 50% is required on confirmation and balance to paid on departure / arrival – you can pay via Internet or we can deduct against your credit card. The following credit cards are accepted: Visa & MasterCard. No cheques are accepted.

If no deposit is paid – we expect a payment of 80% on arrival.

Terms of cancellation:
Less than 7 days forfeit the full deposit
Less than 8-14 days forfeit 75%
Less than 15-21 days forfeit 50%
Less than 22-28 days forfeit 25 %

The room will be available from 14H00 on day of arrival and must be vacated by 11H00 on day of departure.

The owner cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to the property or possessions of any guest, whether such damage was caused by fire, theft of otherwise or by negligence or the wrongful act or any anyone in the employment of or acting on behalf of the owner.

The owner cannot be held responsible for any personal injuries of whatsoever nature, sustained by guest, whether such injuries sustained by the negligence or the wrongful act of anyone employed by the owner or any other person or by the defective functioning of any apparatus or appliances of the owner.Firearms are to be declared on check-in, in order for appropriate arrangements for safe keeping to be made.
